David S. Hall, 83, of Gerry went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 5, 2026. He was born on October 23, 1942, the oldest child of Stanley and Mabel (Johnson) Hall.
David was known as a jack-of-all-trades, a man of few words, and always enjoyed helping those in need. "Flitting" around town, "checking the buildings" for heat in the winter, knowing which key opened which door, and were all things he cherished. He was known for collecting things and having them on hand in case someone else was in need.
He humbly served his community from a young age. He was a member of the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department, joining in 1960. He held office as President, Vice President, trustee, EMT, Fire Police, Chief, and Assistant Chief. David spent over 75 years volunteering at the Gerry Rodeo. He began at six years old, cutting weeds beneath the rodeo bleachers with a sickle, worked his way up to scooping ice cream, and had many other various jobs including garbage detail and stuffing day sheets. His most notable, and probably favorite position was the Gerry Rodeo Chairman, beginning in 1968.
David was a 1960 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School, where he later went on to work there as mechanic's helper and bus driver for 41 years, retiring in 2009. David also worked for Zahm & Matson, Jordan Funeral Home, and the Town of Gerry as court officer. He was a member of the Gerry Memorial Day Committee.
David loved the Lord, and was a member of the Gerry Free Methodist Church for many years. Most recently, he served as deacon at the Kiantone Congregational Church.
David was a loving father and grandfather. He leaves behind his wife, Cindy (Westerdahl) Hall, whom he married January 29, 1982. Together, they had six children: Jennifer (Bob) Fuller of Spring Creek, PA, Rebecca (Brett) LeBaron of Sinclairville, Alexandra (Hector) Perez of Gerry, Jacqueline (Paul) Rodgers of Tyler, TX, James (Kelly) Moore of Newark, NY and Jonathan (Mary) Moore of Sinclairville. They had 11 grandchildren: Allyssa (Landon) Fuller, Brittyn LeBaron, Brielle LeBaron, LeighEllen (Jacob) Whittaker, Catherine (Cody) Spurbeck, Jackson (Julia) Rodgers, Levi (Kendra) Moore, Nicholas (MacKenzie) Moore, Liam Moore, Tiffany (Kade) Ticer and Jordan (Chris) Lux; as well as 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy Benware of Greenhurst; as well as many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister, Temple Atwell; and brother, George Hall.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, March 11 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Jordan Funeral Home, 6 Parkway Drive in Sinclairville, where a fireman's service will follow. A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 12 at 11:00 AM at the Gerry Methodist Church. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department or the Gerry Rodeo, PO Box 182, Gerry, NY 14740.
