Geraldine S. Marsh

Geraldine S. "Gerry" Marsh, 90, of Brocton, formerly of Cassadaga, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2026 at home, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 28, 1935 in Westfield to the late Lawrence and Virginia (Shreve) Alexander.

In her early years, Gerry was employed at the former Rounds Basket Factory in Stockton, but most of her career was spent as a custodial engineer at Cassadaga Valley Middle-High School. While she halted her own schooling at age 16 to care for her parents and begin her own family, Gerry frequently boasted following her retirement in 1995 that she had gone to high school for over 30 years.

Gerry was an auxiliary member of the J.W. Dill American Legion Post 434 in Brocton, a former auxiliary member of the American Legion Post 1280 in Cassadaga, a regular attendee of the Sinclairville 76ers luncheons, and dedicated American Red Cross volunteer. She loved spending time with family, neighbors, and friends, who warmly knew her as "Ger-Bear." She was a prolific embroiderer, enjoyed old-time country music, and played bingo at nearly every church, fire hall, and community center in Chautauqua County (estimated at over 20,000 games played).

Gerry was the wife of the late Carl B. Marsh, Jr., whom she married on October 21, 1952 and who died on June 17, 1997; mother of Kathryn (William) Cornel of Atlanta, MI, Thomas (Natalie) Marsh of Jamestown and the late Karen (Tim) Cave of Fredonia; grandmother of Kurt (Kerri) Smith, Korydon Smith (Julie Haase-Smith), Matthew and Zachary Cave, Michael (Kaitlyn) and Ashley Marsh; and also had seven great-grandchildren; five brothers and two sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 9 at 11:00 AM at the Jordan Funeral Home, 6 Parkway Drive in Sinclairville, with a closing prayer at 1:00 PM, followed by a reception at American Legion Post 1280 in Cassadaga. Private burial will be in Cassadaga Cemetery.

Gerry's family extends deep gratitude to the Brocton Fire Company for their dedicated service and care. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Brocton Fire Company, 80 Lake Avenue, Brocton, NY 14716.
