Howard James Boberg, 67, of Mayville died on Monday, April 20, 2026 after a courageous fight with a long illness. He was born on May 16, 1958 in Medina and was adopted by the late John and Beatrice Boberg of Little Valley, NY in the fall of 1959.
Howard was a 1976 graduate of Little Valley High School. He was a 1978 graduate of Jamestown Business College with a degree in accounting. He worked for 11 years at Little Valley Federal Credit Union and then for 15 years at Crown Hill Stone in Westfield. His favorite job was working on the 511 Cam Line at Cummins Jamestown Engine Plant for 11 years. He retired from Cummins in July 2022.
Howard was a fantastic gardener. Every spring, he planted nine flats of beautiful impatiens and 25 pretty begonias. He also tended to his lovely rose gardens. Howard was also an amazing bowler. He enjoyed many vacations with his family in Kentucky, Virginia, Massachusetts, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Howard is survived by his wife, Kathy Ann Biekert Boberg, whom he married on April 14, 1996; his son, Todd (Andres) of Rochester; his sister, Barbara (Tim) Pease of South Glens Falls, NY; several nieces and nephews; and his best friend, Kevin Andrew of Little Valley, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Beatrice Boberg; and his aunt, Marion Meyer.
Friends will be received on Friday, May 1 from 4:30-7:30 PM at the Freay Funeral Home, 139 South Erie Street in Mayville, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 2 at 5:00 PM. Bishop Leecroft Clarke will officiate at Howard's funeral service. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery.
