Curtis Mark "Curt" Raymond, 86, of Vero Beach, FL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital in Vero Beach, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Tupper Lake, NY on February 24, 1940, the son of the late Mark and Kathryn (Trainor) Raymond.
Curt was a graduate of Tupper Lake High School, Ithaca College, and the University at Buffalo. He played football, basketball, track and baseball in high school and baseball, soccer and track at Ithaca College.
He began his 37-year teaching career in 1962 at Silver Creek and Forestville Central schools, teaching physical education and driver's education while coaching multiple sports. He served as head baseball coach at both schools, as well as defensive football coach and JV and varsity basketball coach at Silver Creek. He later spent 10 years as JV and assistant varsity basketball coach at SUNY Fredonia.
He is a member of the Tupper Lake High School Athletic Hall of Fame and the Black Knight Hall of Fame. Curt served as Section VI Baseball Chairman, was on the Section VI Basketball Committee, and was president of both the Chautauqua County Baseball and Basketball Associations. Carmel RC Church in Silver Creek, Holy Cross RC Church, Vero Beach Country Club, and Tri-County Country Club in Forestville. In retirement, he worked at Dodgertown and local golf courses in Vero Beach. He also served as president of The Crossing HOA and on the board of Victoria Island.
Curt enjoyed golfing, working in the yard, and traveling, but especially cherished time with his family, friends, and teams. He loved being a coach -- to his players, his children and grandchildren, and anyone who sought his guidance. Curt's legacy lives on in the many people he helped shape throughout his life.
