Sandra Jane "Sandy" Cridland, 89, of Dunkirk, formerly of Silver Creek, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at the Chautauqua Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk. She was born in Hamburg on October 17, 1936, the daughter of the late Fillmore and Emma (Freimuller) Miller.
Sandy worked for the former J.N. Adam Developmental Center in Perrysburg, helping disabled people. She enjoyed watching "CSI" and "Law & Order: SVU." Sandy liked crocheting, doing needlepoint and loved collecting stuffed animals. Roller skating was her passion; when she competed, she "ran the rink." Sandy leaves behind many cherished memories and will be remembered for her spitfire personality.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth "Liz" (Joe) Jurczak of Forestville and Laura Lynden of Fredonia; a son, William "Billy" Schank of Alabama; along with four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband, Theodore G. Cridland, whom she married on March 4, 1977 in First United Church and who died on September 8, 2017; an infant daughter, Pamela Schank; her brother, Fillmore Miller; and her beloved dog, Pugsley.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
The family suggests memorials may be made either to the Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 East Chestnut Street, Dunkirk, NY 14048; or the SPCA, 300 Harlem Road, West Seneca, NY 14224.
