Matthew J. Woloszyn, Jr.

Matthew J. "Matty" Woloszyn, Jr., 78, of Dunkirk passed away Wednesday evening, May 13, 2026 at Brooks Memorial Hospital. Born in Dunkirk on December 22, 1947, he was the son of the late Matthew J. Woloszyn, Sr. and Eleanor (Pniewski) Woloszyn.

A lifelong resident of Dunkirk, in his earlier years, Matty served for many years as an altar boy at St. Hedwig's Roman Catholic Church. He attended Dunkirk Industrial High School and graduated from Dunkirk High School. Following high school, he served in the United States Army from 1967-1971. After his time in the service, Matthew worked at the Chemical Process and Supply Co. for 24 years. He also worked at Al-Tech Specialty Steel and True Temper over the years. He ultimately made a career at SUNY Fredonia as a custodian, retiring in 2010.

Outside of work, Matty was actively involved in sports. He played City League Basketball and fastpitch softball. Bowling was another passion of his, and he was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Browns. In his earlier years, he also served for many years as an altar boy at St. Hedwig's Roman Catholic Church.

Matthew was a proud life member of the Fourth Ward Falcon Club and was also a member of the Moniuszko Club and the WWII Vets Club.

Survivors include his companion, Mary F. Wlodarek; children, Michael (Hollyann) Woloszyn and Jennifer Ellman; grandchildren, Hannah, Maddy, Tyler and Matthew; a great-grandson, Colter; siblings, James and Ronald Woloszyn; nephews, Kevin and Jason Woloszyn; and Mary's son, Gene and grandson, Jack Wlodarek. In addition to his parents, Matthew is preceded in death by his son, Brian Woloszyn; and brother, Dennis Woloszyn.

Relatives and friends are welcome to attend calling hours on Tuesday, May 19 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the R. Mackowiak Funeral Home, Inc., 56 East Doughty Street in Dunkirk. Prayer services will begin at 6:45 PM, with Military Honors immediately following held by the Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Matthew's memory to the Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 East Chestnut Street, Dunkirk, NY 14048.
