Saturday Sports Update
Top: Dunkirk High School's Isiah Velez punts the ball away during the 1st quarter of Friday's high school football game at Olean's Bradner Stadium. A miscue by Velez wound up costing the Marauders -- he fumbled a snap on a punt with 2:38 remaining in the 4th quarter, giving the Huskies the ball at the Dunkirk 25-yard line and setting up the game-winning touchdown. Bottom left: Mark Teixeira rounds the bases after hitting a grand slam on Friday night in the Bronx. Teixeira's round-tripper gave the New York Yankees a 7-2 lead over the Tampa Bay Rays, and the Yanks held on to win 7-5. New York's victory got them to within one game of the second American League Wild Card spot, trailing Detroit and Baltimore.
Bottom right: Is a new Heisman candidate emerging? Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson is making a strong case. Here, Jackson runs for one of his four touchdowns in the Cardinals' 62-28 blowout of Syracuse on Friday at the Carrier Dome. Jackson ran for 199 yards and also threw for 411 yards and a touchdown in the win. His ACC-record performance came one week after accounting for eight total touchdowns a rout of Charlotte.
