Gray gets lit up again...a surprise in one of the World Cup quarterfinals...and a top seed goes down in Wimbledon. More details from Greg Larson on today's Saturday Sports Update...
Saturday Sports Update
Top left: Sonny Gray has been a liability for the New York Yankees recently. Six days after a short outing against the Boston Red Sox, Gray had an even shorter appearance against the Toronto Blue Jays, allowing five runs on six hits in only two innings of work. The Yankees went on to lose 6-2 at the Rogers Centre on Friday.
Top right: A big upset today on the grass courts of the All England Club. French Open champion Simona Halep, the top seed at Wimbledon, was eliminated by Taiwanese player Su-wei Hsieh. Halep won the 1st set 6-3 and held a 5-2 lead in the final set, but Hsieh won five straight games to close out the match and record a stunning 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory. Photo by Reuters
Bottom: France and Belgium advanced to the semifinals of the World Cup on Friday. France was aided by a massive blunder by Uruguay goalkeeper Fernando Muslera (left); a shot from about 20 yards should have been saved easily, but the ball went through his arms and into the back of net for France's second goal of a 2-0 win. Meanwhile, Belgium (right) stunned one of the tournament's favorites, Brazil, by a 2-1 score on Friday to advance to its first World Cup semifinal since 1986. Photos by Reuters
