Sunday Sports Update
Top: It was 17 years ago today that the New England Patriots and St. Louis Rams faced each other in Super Bowl XXXVI. That day launched the Patriots dynasty, as they upset the Rams 20-17 in New Orleans on Adam Vinatieri's 48-yard field goal as time expired. Today, the Rams -- now back in Los Angeles -- are the underdogs in Super Bowl LIII, and will look to hand New England its fourth Super Bowl loss in the Tom Brady/Bill Belichick era. WDOE (94.9 FM/1410 AM) will have coverage of Super Bowl LIII; pregame coverage begins at 2:00 PM, leading up to kickoff of the big game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta at 6:30 PM! The Class of 2019 is headlined by tight end Tony Gonzalez (bottom right) -- the NFL's all-time leader in receptions and receiving yards among tight ends -- and Ed Reed (bottom center), the ballhawking anchor of the Baltimore Ravens' secondary for 11 seasons.
