Saturday Sports Update
Top left: In a war of attrition, the team with the fresher bodies usually has the advantage. The Portland Trail Blazers made good with that advantage late Friday night, as Rodney Hood drained a three-pointer with 18.6 left in the 4th overtime to help beat the Denver Nuggets 140-137 in Game 3 of the NBA's Western Conference Semifinals. It was only the second four-overtime playoff game in NBA history, with the only other instance occurring in 1953.
Top right: The Carolina Hurricanes are making a strong case of being this year's Cinderella team in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The 'Canes, in their first playoff appearance in 10 years, punched their ticket to the Eastern Conference Finals on Friday by defeating the New York Islanders 5-2 to complete a four-game sweep.
Bottom left: The bat flip doesn't do much, but the Gary is still scary! Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez hit two home runs in a 6-3 win over the Minnesota Twins on Friday. Sanchez now has 10 long balls on the season, a team high.
Bottom right: The first Saturday in May means horse racing gets into the spotlight. Game Winner is the morning line favorite at 3-1 to win the 145th running of the Kentucky Derby. Track conditions may be sloppy at Churchill Downs, with rain in the forecast.
