Saturday Sports Update

Top: Friday night's windy conditions made for a very run-oriented high school contest between Dunkirk and Maritime at Karl Hoeppner Field.  Christian Ortiz (left) ran the ball 18 times for 76 yards to lead Dunkirk's offense.  However, the night belonged to Maritime's Mekhi Bridgers (right), who had 28 carries for 197 yards and two touchdowns.  Maritime defeated Dunkirk by a score of 20-6 to drop the Marauders to 1-1 on the season.  Photos by Ron Szot and Kevin Lidlow

Jafarjian had himself a night, totaling four touchdowns on the ground as the Thunderbirds hammered the Panthers 37-6 to get their first win of the season.  Photo by the Observer

Bottom right: New York Yankees relief pitcher Tyler Lyons walks off the mound after giving up a walk-off home run against the Toronto Blue Jays in the 12th inning on Friday. The homer by Bo Bichette gave the Blue Jays a 6-5 win over the Yankees, whose magic number remains at 5 to clinch the American League East after the Tampa Bay Rays won their game.  Photo by USA Today
