Saturday Sports Update

Top left: This weekend would have marked the opening weekend for the 2020 Major League Baseball season, had it not been for the COVID-19 pandemic.  However, plans are in place for a potential end to MLB's hiatus; on Friday, the league and its Players Association reached agreement on a new deal to respond to the coronavirus outbreak, with the following conditions: no bans on mass gatherings that would limit the ability to play in front of fans, no travel restrictions throughout the United States and Canada, and medical experts determining that there would be no health risks for players, staff or fans, with the commissioners and union still able to revisit the idea of playing in empty stadiums.  Photo by USA Today

Top right: Cam Newton is on the free agent market after the Carolina Panthers released him after nine seasons there.  Newton may have a difficult time finding a new team, in part due to the fact that he is coming off a foot injury that limited him to only two games all season.  There has been speculation of the Buffalo Bills as a potential landing spot for Newton due to the team's connections with the Panthers franchise.  Photo by USA Today
