Saturday Sports Update

Top left: Brett Gardner takes off after lining a two-run double to right field in the 4th inning of the New York Yankees' game in Houston on Friday.  D.J. LeMahieu added a two-run double of his own in the 7th inning, and four pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout as the Bronx Bombers defeated the Astros 4-0 at Minute Maid Park.  Photo by USA Today

Top right: One of the items on the Buffalo Bills' to-do list is working on a future deal with quarterback Josh Allen, and it looks like Bills fans shouldn't have to worry.  ESPN senior NFL writer Jeremy Fowler reports that both the Bills and Allen know that even though such a deal will be complicated, both sides are in no rush to get it done, and they know that one will get done.  Allen is in the final year of his four-year rookie contract.  File photo

Bottom right: Dunkirk High School's Ashley Gotowka had a stellar softball season in 2021, and she's being rewarded with recognition from New York State.  Gotowka this week was named to the All-State Class B Third Team following a season that saw the senior pitch four no-hitters, including a perfect game, for the Lady Marauders.  Other local softball players to earn All-State honors include Haleigh Dellow of Westfield, Olivia Herrington of Chautauqua Lake, and Juli Smith of Brocton.  Photo by Ron Szot
