Saturday Sports Update

Top left: It was another wild game between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees on Friday, a contest that was decided on a wild pitch.  With two outs in the top of the 11th inning, Boston's Xander Bogaerts scored on a wild pitch to put the Red Sox ahead 5-4 after the Yankees squandered golden opportunities to win with a runner on third with less than two outs in each of the previous two innings.  Photo by USA Today

Bottom right: The First Ward Falcons Club Fastpitch Softball Tournament returned to Dunkirk on Friday for its 47th edition after a two-year absence.  The opening game of the tournament at Prommenschenkel Stadium, which aired on WDOE, saw the Monnies lose to CanAm Ridge by a 5-1 score.  This year's tournament features more younger faces on the local rosters, including Dunkirk High School graduate Javier DeJesus, shown here in the field during the opening contest.  Photo by the Observer
