Saturday Sports Update
Top: Fredonia is going back to Highmark Stadium after defeating Medina 29-22 on Friday in the Section VI Class C semifinals. The Hillbillies made several big plays in the 4th quarter to put them over the top. Ethan Fry (left) threw two of three touchdown passes in that final quarter, both of which were under heavy Medina pressure. Meanwhile, on defense, the Billies' big play came with 3:19 remaining (right), as Keegan Whitfield recovered a fumble to preserve his team's seven-point lead. Fredonia's next opponent will be either Lackawanna or Salamanca; those two teams will face each other this afternoon. Photos by Greg Larson
Bottom left: The Buffalo Bills will be missing starting safety Jordan Poyer for the team's game against the New York Jets. Poyer missed a third straight day of practice on Friday, as he continues to deal with an elbow injury he suffered against the Green Bay Packers. Other than that, the Bills have a relatively clean bill of health entering Sunday's contest, with one other starter questionable. Photo by the Buffalo Bills
Bottom right: Buffalo Sabres head coach Don Granato says his team wasn't as sharp Friday night compared to their previous games, as they lost a 5-3 contest at the Carolina Hurricanes. Rasmus Dahlin was one of the three goalscorers on the night for the Sabres, who are back on the ice tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Photo by the Buffalo Sabres
