Top: This week marked the beginning of the new high school basketball season. On Friday, Forestville played its second game of the season, defeating Brocton 59-44. Shown left is Hornets junior Adam Pokoj rebounding a missed shot and scoring two of his 13 points. Meanwhile, Westfield also began its season on the road. The defending Section VI Class D champions fell to Olean, one of the section's perennial contenders, by a 55-47 score in the first round of the Olean Tip-Off Tournament. Carson Swanson, shown on the right attempting a free throw during the contest, led all players with 24 points for the Wolverines, who will face Roy-Hart in today's consolation game. Bottom left: The run is over for the United States at the World Cup. Today, the USA lost in the Round of 16 to the Netherlands by a score of 3-1 in Qatar. The Americans trailed 2-0 at halftime and got a goal back in the 76th minute, but conceded a goal five minutes later, sealing their fate. Photo by the U.S. Men's National Team
Bottom right: Buffalo left it late on Friday, but the Bulls are now bowl eligible. On Friday, Quian Williams caught a 16-yard touchdown pass with 1:15 remaining to give the Bulls a 23-22 victory over Akron.
