Sunday Sports Update
Top: It was THAT close to a trip to Glens Falls for Fredonia. The Hillbillies were celebrating (left) after Mike Hahn knocked down a corner three with 4.2 seconds remaining in regulation of Saturday's New York State Class B Far West Regional against Newark. But an overthrown inbound pass by Newark (right) that looked like it would be a game-clinching turnover was nullified after an inadvertent whistle. As a result, the Reds got new life, Newark's Brayden Steve hit a deep buzzer-beating three to force overtime, and Fredonia went on to lose 66-58. Photos by Greg Larson
Bottom left: After a poor defensive showing in Thursday's 10-4 loss to the Dallas Stars, the Buffalo Sabres turned in a much strong effort against the New York Rangers on Saturday. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 24 saves and held the Rangers to just one goal in regulation. However, the Rangers were able to get one past him in overtime for a 2-1 win, sending the Sabres to their sixth loss in their last seven contests. Photo by the Buffalo Sabres
Bottom right: It's Selection Sunday, which means the final NCAA Tournament bracket will be unveiled today. Several teams clinched automatic bids by winning their respective conference tournaments on Saturday, including Duke, which defeated Virginia to win the ACC title. The final five automatic bids will be determined today, along with the at-large bids. Photo by the Duke Blue Devils
