Saturday Sports Update
Top left: 31 saves on 33 shots in an overtime win during a playoff race. Not a bad way to make your NHL debut. Devon Levi made some big saves for the Buffalo Sabres in Friday's 3-2 win over the New York Rangers, including a point-blank save against Artemi Panarin with 1:29 left in regulation that kept the game tied at 2-2. Jeff Skinner scored the overtime winner for Buffalo, which puts the Sabres back to within five points of a playoff spot with eight games remaining. Photo by the Buffalo Sabres
Top right: The NCAA Men's Final Four has an unfamiliar look. For the first time ever, there are no 1-, 2-, or 3-seeds taking the court on college basketball's biggest stage. UConn has prior Final Four experience, while the other three schools -- Florida Atlantic, San Diego State, and Miami -- are all making their Final Four debuts. WDOE (101.5 FM/1410 AM) will have live coverage of tonight's games via the Westwood One Radio Network; the first game of the night will feature FAU against San Diego State at 6:09 PM, followed by UConn against Miami in the nightcap. Bottom left: Caitlin Clark has been a scoring phenom for Iowa's women's college basketball team this season, and she turned in another masterful performance on Friday. She scored 41 points in leading the Hawkeyes to a 77-73 upset win over previously unbeaten South Carolina in the NCAA Women's Final Four. Clark's team will take on LSU in Sunday's national championship game in Dallas. Photo by the NCAA
Bottom right: Two Silver Creek High School boys basketball players received First Team honors for this past season in CCAA Division 1 East. Among them was junior Ray Cortes, shown here dribbling the ball in a game against Dunkirk. Cortes led the Black Knights in scoring for the second year in row, averaging better than 23 points per game. Senior Matthew Woleben was the other Silver Creek player to be named to the First Team.
