Sunday Sports Update

Top: With the season officially over for the Buffalo Sabres, the players on the team cleaned out their lockers on Saturday. Tage Thompson (left) emerged as a big star for the Sabres this season, leading the team with 47 goals and totaling 94 points. While he was disappointed that the Sabres missed the playoffs by one point, he is hopeful that the team's strong finish will carry over into next season.  Kyle Okposo (right) told reporters that the Sabres have come a long way since training camp.  Images by the Buffalo Sabres

Bottom left: The New York Yankees were able to snap their two-game losing streak on Saturday with a 6-1 win over the Minnesota Twins, but the win was not without controversy.  Pitcher Domingo German was checked out multiple times by umpires for sticky substances on his hand, but was allowed to stay in the game despite protests from Twins manager Rocco Baldelli that he didn't fully comply.  German retired the first 16 batters he faced and recorded 11 strikeouts in the win.  Photo by USA Today

Bottom right: Anthony Cosme gets ready to deliver a pitch during the 4th inning of Dunkirk High School's nonleague baseball game against St. Francis on Saturday.  The freshman pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief in an 11-3 loss, the Marauders' first setback of the season after they won their first two games of the season.  Image by Dunkirk Access
