Westfield falls to Friendship-Scio for second straight season...Bills to break ground for new stadium on Monday...and the Stanley Cup Finals begin tonight. More details from Greg Larson on today's Saturday Sports Update...
Saturday Sports Update
Top: Friday's New York State Class D Far West Regional softball game was a pitcher's duel between Westfield's Haleigh Dellow and Friendship-Scio's Nevaeh Ross. While Dellow (left) allowed only three hits in the game, all three of those hits produced a run for the Lady Golden Eagles. After her team took a 3-0 lead, Ross continued to shut down Westfield's bats, and she also flashed the leather with a running catch (right) in the 7th inning. Westfield lost 3-0, with Ross tossing a no-hitter in the process. Photos by Greg Larson
Bottom left: The Buffalo Bills are two days from officially breaking ground on their new stadium. On Friday, the team announced that a ceremony will take place on Monday at 9:00 AM for the groundbreaking across from Highmark Stadium. Multiple Bills officials will be present for the event, along with NFL Comissisioner Roger Goodell. The new stadium is slated to open in time for the 2026 NFL season.
Bottom right: After spending several years in Buffalo without a postseason appearance to show for it, Jack Eichel will begin his quest for a Stanley Cup tonight, as the Vegas Golden Knights host the Florida Panthers in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Eichel is not the only notable ex-Sabre who will be involved in the series; Florida's Sam Reinhart is also seeking to hoist the cup for a Panthers team that barely got into the Eastern Conference Playoffs by one point (over the Sabres).
