Top: Mike Hanlon (left) had a big performance in Dunkirk's high school football season opener against Lake Shore on Friday. The senior ran for 281 yards on 26 carries and also had 29 receiving yards to go with three touchdowns in the contest at Karl Hoeppner Field. Here, Hanlon gets by the Lake Shore defense en route to a 78-yard touchdown run in the 3rd quarter. Marauders quarterback Donny Jackson (right) also put up some decent passing numbers with 194 yards, including a 57-yard touchdown to Jareese Gaines that gave Dunkirk the lead in the 4th quarter. But their performances came in a losing effort, as the Eagles rallied for a 70-yard touchdown drive for the game-winning score in the final minute, sending Dunkirk to a 36-32 loss. The shot off future Hall-of-Famer Justin Verlander in the 1st inning helped propel the Bronx Bombers to a 6-2 win. He also became the youngest Yankees player ever to hit a home run in an MLB game.
