The Village of Westfield Electric Department has been awarded $100,000 in state funding for an energy microgrid project. The project would consist of a 2 megawatt or larger combined heat and power facility to supplement power from the village's electric grid. It is one of five projects that were awarded funding as part of Governor Andrew Cuomo's New York Prize Community Microgrid Competition. The competition is part of Cuomo's Reforming the Energy Vision plan, designed to build a clean and affordable energy system for New York State residents. The next step for the Westfield Electric Department is the launch of a feasibility study before it can begin construction of its microgrid.
