Small Boat on Chautauqua Lake Damaged by Fire

Firefighters made quick work of a blaze that heavily damaged a small boat on Chautauqua Lake on Wednesday. Lakewood fire crews and the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Navigation Patrol were called to a dock at the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club shortly after 6:15 PM and found the vessel fully involved in flames on arrival. The owner and operator of the boat, 73-year-old Dalton Burgett of Bemus Point, told deputies that he smelled smoke coming from inside the cabin area. He then went into the cabin and saw the smoke coming from the electrical panel. Burgett then secured the boat at the dock, and the boat caught fire shortly after. Firefighters had the blaze out in about 30 minutes. No injuries were reported, and there was no other property damage.
