Gillibrand opposed to Trump's pick for Secretary of Defense

President-Elect Donald Trump has announced his pick for Secretary of Defense, but the choice is not likely to get the support of several Democrats including U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand. Trump says the official announcement is coming Monday, but he mentioned the choice of retired Marine General James "Mad Dog" Mattis as Secretary of Defense during a stop in Cincinatti...
Trump-Announces pick for Defense Secretary
In a statement last night, Gillibrand said that while she "deeply respects" General Mattis' service, she will oppose a waiver. The New York Democrat says "civilian control of our military is a fundamental principle of American democracy, and I will not vote for an exception to this rule." A special waiver from Congress is needed because Mattis is less than seven years removed from active duty.
