Nine Students Complete Maintenance Technician Program at JCC

Jamestown Community College's Workforce Development recently held a graduation ceremony for nine students that have completed the Maintenance Technician program. The event took place on December 16th in the Carnahan Center at JCC's Jamestown Campus. The graduates were Michael Andin of Brocton; Jason Austin of Fredonia; Dominick Baldwin of Little Genesee; Chad Burdette of Youngsville, Pennsylvania; Brandon Dietzel of Jamestown; Danielle Hammer of Silver Creek; Ryan Huling of Kennedy; Robert Lacey of Dunkirk; and John Lee of Sinclairville.

Students enrolled in this advanced manufacturing program complete 292 hours of classroom learning and hands-on training. Two hundred and twelve hours are dedicated to hands-on instruction, giving students the opportunity to complete e-learning modules and job relevant expertise.

Classroom learning includes courses focused on manufacturing, mechanical, electrical, and automation skills. Through the Maintenance Technician program and JCC's Workforce Development, students also have the opportunity to work and network with local manufacturing businesses.

JCC Director of Workforce Development Grant Umberger says, "The intent of this 10-week program is to provide motivated individuals with the skills needed for entry into advanced manufacturing. Based on a recent feasibility study and several conversations with local manufacturers, JCC's Workforce Development created these short-term training programs to address the need for industrial maintenance technicians. Through this program, JCC has the ability to provide state of the art training to address the current and future advanced manufacturing employment needs and the ability to upskill incumbent workers."

Classes for a new cohort start in February, with additional opportunities available beginning in the summer.
