
The Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame Board of Directors announced this week that eight outstanding county athletes will be honored during its 40th annual induction banquet on Monday, February 21st at the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, in addition to the enshrinement of its Class of 2022 inductees.
The athletes include six high school football players who were chosen as First Team All-New York State by the New York State Sportswriters Association: Jaylen Butera and Ben Anderson of Jamestown, Nick Whitfield and Matt Lotter of Fredonia, Aidan Kennedy of Southwestern and Justin Massing of Clymer-Sherman-Panama. Also to be honored will be Mike Sayers of Lakewood, a gold medalist in the discus event at the 2021 Empire State Senior Games in the 65-70 age group; Sayers was inducted into the CSHOF in 2017 in recognition of his outstanding athletic career. And lastly, Andrew Dickson will be presented the Ramsey Riddell Legacy Award, which honors an outstanding contributor to winter sports. Dickson is receiving the award because of his involvement in Nordic or cross-country skiing, both as a competitor and as a volunteer promoting the sport.
