It's an extremely difficult feat to accomplish in baseball and softball, but Fredonia High School's star softball pitcher has now done it three times in her varsity career -- a perfect game. On Saturday in Fredonia, the Lady Hillbillies advanced to the next round of the Section VI playoffs behind the pitching of Jordan Lucas in a 3-0 win over Southwestern in the Class B-1 quarterfinal contest that aired on WDOE.
Lucas got all the run support she needed when 8th-grader Jenna Fryberger knocked a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the 1st inning. Fredonia (18-0) added onto its lead when junior Danielle Palisin scored on a throwing error in the 3rd inning and freshman Naomi Muck came home on a passed ball in the 5th inning. Meanwhile, Southwestern (5-12) only managed to put three balls in play off Lucas. The senior, who will be playing collegiately at St. Bonaventure University, struck out 18 batters in the circle, including the last 16 in a row to finish the game. Lucas completed her perfect game by striking out Peyton Lillie in the 7th inning.
Lucas' perfect game also marked her sixth career no-hitter at the varsity level, including a no-hitter she threw against Southwestern on Tuesday. She also had a hit at the plate in the win, while Danielle Palisin logged two hits and scored twice for the Lady Billies. Despite taking the loss, Southwestern pitcher Ariana Silakowski tossed a solid game, allowing one earned run on six hits and recording 14 strikeouts.
Fredonia moves on to face East Aurora in the Class B-1 semifinals.
