Buffalo Man Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison on Weapon Conviction from Jamestown Traffic Stop

A Buffalo man who was convicted on a felony weapon charge from a June 2023 traffic stop in Jamestown has been sentenced to 15 years in state prison. Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt says 39-year-old Dion Carr also got five years post-release supervision as part of his sentence, which was handed down by Judge David Foley last Friday. Carr's arrest resulted from a traffic stop at the intersection of North Main Street and West 9th Street, where a 9 mm pistol was found at his feet on the floor of a vehicle, just under the driver's seat. Carr, who had a previous weapon conviction from 2013, pleaded guilty to a Class C violent felony count of 2nd-degree criminal possession of a weapon in April 2024. Schmidt says Carr failed to appear in court after his plea, and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. He was again arrested by Jamestown Police last September and charged with three felony drug possession counts and 3rd-degree criminal possession of a weapon. A grand jury indicted him in January on those counts, which remain pending. Carr is scheduled to appear in Chautauqua County Court again on April 28th on the new indictment.
