A Dunkirk man is in custody for allegedly possessing a loaded firearm in Wright Park Sunday evening. Dunkirk Police received a report of a subject armed with a pistol in that area at about 7:00 PM. Officers arrived and located a person matching the description given and tried to stop the man, identified as 25-year-old Kareem Caldwell. They detained him and searched the water where he was and eventually located a pistol and a loaded magazine. Officers say the pistol, a Sig Sauer P365, was reported stolen out of the Town of Ellicott a month prior. They add that the area Caldwell was in was heavily populated with families and children and included a playground area. Caldwell was charged with 2nd-degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm in a sensitive location, 4th-degree criminal possession of stolen property and tampering with physical evidence. He was arraigned on Monday and remanded to the Chautauqua County Jail on $50,000 bail.
