
A traffic stop on a vehicle stolen out of Jamestown resulted in several charges for two Olean men. According to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office, 40-year-old Anthony Margeson was seen driving the vehicle on Washington Street in Olean at about 4:00 AM Friday. Meanwhile, 35-year-old Eric Smith was the passenger in the who reportedly originally stole the vehicle. Deputies say drug paraphernalia was seen in plain view, and K-9 Lex detected an odor of narcotics. A subsequent search of the vehicle located approximately 25.9 grams of suspected methamphetamine, a quantity of suspected oxycodone pills, multiple plastic baggies, a scale, lock-picking tools, a stolen Samsung smartphone, four stolen debit cards, and miscellaneous drug paraphernalia. Both men were taken Olean City Court for arraignment. Margeson is charged with 2nd- and 3rd-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, three counts of 4th-degree criminal possession of stolen property, two counts of 2nd-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia, possession of burglar's tools, and 3rd-degree aggravated unlicensed operation. Smith faces three counts of 4th-degree criminal possession of stolen property. Both men were remanded to the Cattaraugus County Jail and are due back in court at a later date for further proceedings.
