A man was taken into custody on an attempted robbery charge stemming from an incident in downtown Jamestown Wednesday morning. Jamestown Police were called to a report of a fight just before 8:00 AM and saw a 19-year-old victim lying on the ground. The victim told officers that he was "jumped" by an unknown male. Police located the man, identified as 36-year-old John Lopez-Alvarez, and determined that he was allegedly punching and kicking the victim while he was on the ground and stated that he was going to take the victim's property until a passerby yelled out and deterred the suspect. Lopez-Alvarez was taken into custody and transported to the Jamestown City Jail and held pending arraignment on a charge of 3rd-degree attempted robbery.
