The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to take up a challenge to a 2021 New York law that allows lawsuits to be filed against gun makers, wholesalers, and dealers for endangering the safety of others through sales of firearms and ammunition. The National Shooting Sports Foundation, along with a number of gun manufacturers, argued that the state's law conflicted with federal law. New York Governor Kathy Hochul called it a "massive victory" in the fight against gun violence, while a spokesperson for NSSF said, "Holding the firearm industry responsible for the criminal misuse of a firearm is akin to holding Anheuser-Busch and Ford Motor Company responsible for damages from drunk-driving crimes."
