
New York State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has been holding steady over the past several months, and that trend continued in May. According to preliminary statistics released Thursday by the State Department of Labor, the jobless rate remained at 4.6% for the month. Also, the number of private sector jobs statewide grew by 11,800 over the month and is up by 31,400 (0.4%) compared to May 2025; private sector jobs nationwide were up by 0.5% over the same period. Meanwhile, New York's seasonally adjusted labor force decreased by 11,400, and the labor force participation rate held steady at 61.7%.
