The Suicide Prevention Alliance of Chautauqua County invites community members to come together for a series of events in August and September that promote hope, connection, wellness, and suicide prevention awareness. Whether attending, volunteering, riding, golfing, walking, or running, every participant helps strengthen the Alliance's mission to reduce stigma, increase awareness, and support individuals and families affected by suicide.
Community members are encouraged to register early, invite friends and family, form fundraising teams, and volunteer to help make the following events successful:
Veterans Wellness Day Picnic: Wednesday, August 12th, 5:00-8:00 PM at Lakeside Park in Mayville. In partnership with Dwyer Chautauqua, veterans, military members, and their families are invited to enjoy an evening of food, fellowship, wellness resources, and community support.
Veterans Ride for Suicide Awareness: Saturday, August 22nd at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds in Dunkirk. In partnership with Dwyer Chautauqua and Cattoopalooza, this annual motorcycle dice run brings veterans, riders, and supporters together to raise awareness for veteran suicide prevention and honor those impacted. Registration is from 10:00-10:45 AM, pre-ride announcements 10:45-11:00 AM, kickstands up at 11:00 AM.
Raynor Memorial Golf Tournament: Saturday, August 29th at Cardinal Hills Golf Club in Randolph. Golfers of all skill levels are invited to participate in this annual tournament supporting suicide prevention efforts throughout Chautauqua County. Registration is from 9:00-10:00 AM, announcements 10:00-10:15 AM, tee-off at 10:20 AM.
United for Hope Recognition Walk: Saturday, September 12th at Ellery Town Park in Bemus Point. The United for Hope Recognition Walk provides an opportunity for individuals, families, organizations, and community members to walk together in remembrance, hope, and support for suicide prevention. As part of a three-county walk series, this event returns for a second year. Registration is from 9:00-10:00 AM, opening announcements 10:00-10:15 AM, walk begins at 10:15 AM. The Alliance encourages businesses, organizations, schools, faith communities, and families to form fundraising teams in advance of the walk.
Stomp Out the Stigma 5K: Saturday, September 26th at the Chautauqua County Airport near Jamestown. Finish Suicide Prevention Month by participating in the annual Stomp Out the Stigma 5K. Whether you run or walk, every participant helps raise awareness while promoting hope and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide. Sure to be a fun one, there will be music, resources and more! Registration is from 5:30-6:30 PM, opening announcements 6:30-6:45 PM, race begins at 6:45 PM. The Suicide Prevention Alliance is seeking volunteers to assist with event registration, set-up, course support, hospitality, and other event-day activities. Individuals, civic groups, businesses, and organizations interested in volunteering are encouraged to reach out to the Alliance.
