One of America's outstanding rodeo clowns is going to be part of the 81st annual Gerry Rodeo. Preston Broxson, who travels 60,000 miles entertaining fans at more than 100 rodeos annually, will make his debut at the rodeo grounds off Route 60 for the four-day event that begins Wednesday, August 5th. Broxson, who grew up and presently lives in Louisiana, teaches high school agriculture in grades 9-12 while entertaining rodeo fans on weekends and summer vacation from his teaching job. His interest in rodeo came from a friend who was involved in producing rodeos and needed someone to load and sort cattle. Today, he is in demand at rodeos across the country, and he plans to be a full-time rodeo clown when he retires from teaching in four years. He has been nominated four times by CRA as Contract Act of the Year and given that title in 2022 by the LPRA.
Broxson says he is looking forward to coming to Gerry because most of his performances have been out West, and he and his wife Pam are looking forward to seeing Western New York, especially Niagara Falls. He added that one of the big benefits of his clowning is being able to visit places they could never afford on a teacher's salary. Last year, they visited 19 states.
