A Jamestown man is headed to state prison for the next six years following his conviction on drug charges. Chautauqua County District Attorney Jason Schmidt says 33-year-old Jamal Jackson was sentenced Monday by County Court Judge David Foley to 2 1/2 years for 4th-degree attempted criminal possession of a controlled substance and 3 1/2 years for 4th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Schmidt says both sentences will be served consecutively. The charges stemmed from two arrests in December 2024 and January 2025. In December 2024, Jamestown Police pulled over a vehicle in which Jackson was a passenger and determined that he possessed a quantity of methamphetamine. The following month, Jackson was arrested again by Jamestown Police after a traffic stop. While he was at Jamestown Police headquarters, officers located more than 1/2 ounce of methamphetamine in the back of a patrol vehicle. Jackson was subsequently indicted by a grand jury for both arrests. In May, he pleaded guilty to both charges. Schmidt adds that Jackson was sentenced as a violent predicate felon for having multiple felony convictions within a certain period of time.
