Dunkirk Man Jailed After Allegedly Striking Girlfriend, Waving Loaded Gun

A Dunkirk man faces numerous charges stemming from an investigation into a reported domestic dispute in the city's Third Ward. Dunkirk Police responded shortly after 12:15 AM Monday to the 600 block of Deer Street, where the victim's boyfriend was reportedly not allowing her to leave the residence. Police say the person reporting the incident also stated that the victim was claiming to be injured, and the boyfriend was armed with a gun. 48-year-old Jose Salgado allegedly refused to allow officers to check the well-being of the victim inside the residence, and they could hear the female yelling for help and medical attention inside. Officers say Salgado physically resisted them, and he was taken into custody. The victim was then medically evaluated by fire rescue crews. Further investigation found that Salgado allegedly struck his girlfriend multiple times, waved a loaded handgun at her, took away her cell phone as she was calling for help, and at one point, was physically restricting her from movement. Salgado was arraigned in Dunkirk City Court on charges of 2nd- and 3rd-degree criminal possession of a weapon, 2nd-degree menacing, 2nd-degree unlawful imprisonment, 2nd-degree aggravated harassment, 4th-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, and 2nd-degree obstruction. He is being held in the Chautauqua County Jail on $75,000 bail.
