Three newly signed pieces of legislation ahead of the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks will provide support to 9/11 victims, responders, and surviving family members. Governor Kathy Hochul says the bills she signed on Thursday will help ensure eligible New Yorkers can receive the benefits they are entitled to under the law. One new law extends the deadline to submit documentation with the state's retirement systems and the state's Workers' Compensation Board detailing an individual's participation in World Trade Center rescue, recovery and cleanup operations. The second extends the expansion of eligibility for World Trade Center death and disability benefits for members of New York's National Guard and their beneficiaries. And the third new law extends the 25-year presumptive eligibility period for certain retirement benefits for injuries or illnesses related to World Trade Center rescue, recovery and cleanup to 35 years.
