UPMC Chautauqua Adds $1.5 Million Lab Automation System

UPMC Chautauqua has a new piece of technology designed to more quickly evaluate and categorize blood, urine and other specimens in its laboratory facility. The hospital recently hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its DxA 5000 total lab automation system. Hospital President Tracy Gates says it almost resembles an assembly line, but adds that it represents a major upgrade the community needs...

Geary and Morrison say the hospital processes approximately 50,000 specimens per month -- not just for UPMC Chautauqua, but several other facilities in Western New York and northwestern Pennsylvania.
