For the second month in a row, New York State saw a decline in its unemployment rate while also seeing a drop in its private sector job count. According to preliminary statistics released Thursday by the New York State Department of Labor, the state's seasonally adjusted jobless rate for August was 4.3%, which is down by one-tenth of a percent from July. Meanwhile, the number of jobs in the private sector declined by 23,400 over that same time. However, it's still up by 24,100 compared to August 2025. The Labor Department adds that the state's seasonally adjusted labor force decreased by 9,700, and the labor force participation rate held constant at 61.3%.
