DEC Launches Next Phase of Improvements to Zoar Valley Unique Area

The New York State DEC recently launched the second phase of public safety and visitor experience improvements at the Zoar Valley Unique Area in Cattaraugus County. Phase two includes trail upgrades to support emergency services in the area while protecting the natural resources and scenic character that make Zoar Valley a unique destination. This phase focuses on improving the existing Valentine Flats Trail, which provides access to the confluence of the main branch of Cattaraugus Creek and the south branch of Cattaraugus Creek. Starting this month, DEC will mark trees along the existing emergency access trail. Selective tree removal will start after November 1st to avoid potential impacts to endangered bats.
