The New York State Education Department announced this week that it has been given the green light by the Board of Regents to advance plans that will no longer require students to pass Regents exams in order to graduate. Under the next phase of NYSED's "NY Inspires" plan, New York will transition to one state high school diploma, beginning with students graduating in 2028. According to NYSED, Regents examinations will continue as rigorous statewide measures of student achievement, and the department will advance proposed regulatory amendments to the Board of Regents by February to implement the changes in the following school year.
