Construction has been completed on the brand new Salvation Army Anew Center in Jamestown. Governor Kathy Hochul, who made the announcement on Thursday, says the $6 million project received $4.4 million from the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance's (OTDA) Homeless Housing and Assistance Program. It also received funding from Carnahan Jackson, the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, the Sheldon Foundation, the Lenna Foundation, the Cummins Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Continuum of Care.
The new shelter contains seven units and 19 beds and will serve survivors of domestic violence and their families, once opened. The new facility replaces the Salvation Army's previous 13-bed shelter, which occupied a historic building at 83 South Main Street. Key improvements include full ADA accessibility, private bathrooms and showers in each unit, enhanced security features, and on-site space for case managers, family resource specialists, and prevention/education staff, plus dedicated conference and training rooms.
