Four people were treated at local hospitals for non-life threatening injuries after a four-vehicle crash late Wednesday afternoon in the Town of Portland. First responders from Brocton and Portland, as well as State Police, responded to the scene on Route 20 near Walden Road shortly before 5:15 PM. Troopers from SP Fredonia tell WDOE News that a westbound vehicle driven by a 34-year-old woman from the Brocton area stopped in the roadway in order to make a left turn into a driveway. While that was happening, a vehicle operated by a 50-year-old Brocton woman traveled onto the shoulder to pass the first vehicle. Troopers add that the third vehicle, driven by a 43-year-old Westfield man, rear-ended the stopped vehicle and also sideswiped the passing vehicle. The rear-end collision caused the stopped vehicle to collide with an eastbound vehicle driven by a 38-year-old Pomfret woman. Three of the four drivers were transported from the scene, while the driver of the vehicle that got sideswiped transported herself from the scene. Police ticketed the Westfield man for following too closely, not wearing a seatbelt, and not having insurance.
