Gloria A. Ortel-Sarver, 92, of South Dayton died on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at Buffalo General Medical Center, following a short illness. She was born in Dunkirk on July 14, 1934, the daughter of the late Raymond and Margaret (Steele) Strader.
Gloria worked as an aide at the former Singer Mental Health Center in Rockford, IL for 22 years. Previously, she worked for the former Gowanda Psychiatric Center in Helmuth for 10 years. She was a member of the First Assembly Church in Rockford, IL.
Gloria enjoyed crocheting many afghans for family, loved organizing, and liked doing puzzles.
Survivors include her three daughters, Lucy (Howard) Ivett of South Dayton, Donna (Todd) Skeddle of Webster and Valerie (Chuck) Myers of Machesney Park, IL; a son, Randy (Randy Truax) Ortel of Dunkirk; as well as nine grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Terry Allen Ortel, whom she married on February 28, 1953 in the former Brocton United Methodist Church and who died on April 16, 1974; her two sisters, Margie Lawrence and Alita Ortel; and an infant brother.
Friends are welcome to call on Tuesday, August 11 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main Street in Forestville, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 12 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Michael Pollock, Pastor of Gage Chapel Community Church in Smith Mills, officiating. Interment will follow in Villenova Cemetery.
