Lawrence A. Alexander, Sr., known affectionately to many as "Tinker," passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2026 in Brocton at the age of 75. Born on July 11, 1951 in Jamestown, he lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a warm presence that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Tinker was the son of the late Lawrence and Virginia (Shreve) Alexander. He was also predeceased by his beloved son, Shane Alexander; and by his siblings, Mike, Rusty, Ronald, Charlotte, Patricia and Jerry. He is survived by his companion of 25 years, Mary L. Test, who shared many cherished years by his side; his children, Lawrence A. Alexander, Jr. (companion Season), Matthew Alexander and Marine Alexander Presto; his stepson, Ray (Rachel) Test, Jr. (Rachel); eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who brought him great pride and joy; his brother, Dennis Alexander (wife Vikki); as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins who will remember him with love and gratitude.
Family was always central to Tinker's life, and he treasured the time he spent with those closest to him. His steady presence, sense of humor, and genuine care for others made him a valued part of his family circle and community.
Tinker made his living as a self-employed contractor in Brocton, where he was known for his strong work ethic, practical skills, and ability to take on just about any project. He took pride in his work and was respected for his reliability and determination. Whether he was helping someone with a job or working on something of his own, he approached each task with the same hands-on spirit that defined so much of his life.
Outside of work, Tinker enjoyed fishing, hunting and horses, and he was always tinkering with all types of projects. He had a natural curiosity and a talent for fixing, building, and improving things, which earned him his nickname and reflected the way he lived his life. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and those moments of companionship and laughter were among his most treasured.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
