Saturday Sports Update

Top: It is now official...Western New York will be seeing Major League Baseball this summer!  On Friday, the Toronto Blue Jays announced that they will be playing the majority of their home games at Buffalo's Sahlen Field during the truncated 2020 MLB season.  The announcement was made less than a week after Canada's federal government declared that visiting MLB teams would not be allowed to play at Toronto's Rogers Centre.  Photo by Sahlen Field

Bottom right: Less that two years after suffering one of the most gruesome injuries imaginable, Washington quarterback Alex Smith has been cleared for full football activity.  Smith, who was the first overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, broke his tibia and fibula during a game in 2018 in a manner similar to the injury that ended Joe Theismann's career in 1985.  Smith's injury caused him to miss all of 2019.  Photo by USA Today
