Saturday Sports Update
Top left: If the New York Yankees were hoping to see their offense return in their first game back from the MLB All-Star break, they'll have to wait a bit longer. On Friday, Giancarlo Stanton drove in the Yankees' only runs of the game with a two-run blast in the 1st inning. But that was the only real production at the plate for the Bronx Bombers, who lost to the Colorado Rockies 7-2. New York is six games above the .500 mark, but in the stacked American League East, it's a tie for last place. Photo by USA Today
Top right: 24-year-old Marketa Vondrousova is not just a Wimbledon champion -- she's the lowest ever ranked player to win a women's singles title at the All-England Club. Vondrousova, who entered the tournament ranked 42nd in the world, defeated number 6 seed Ons Jabeur 6-4, 6-4 to claim her first ever Grand Slam title. It was also her first Grand Slam final appearance since the 2019 French Open. Photo by the All-England Club
Bottom: The Buffalo Sabres made a couple of signings on Friday. The team signed forward Brett Murray (left) to a one-year, two-way contract. The 2016 draft pick appeared in all but one game last season for the Sabres' AHL affiliate in Rochester. Meanwhile, forward Anton Wahlberg (right) has been signed to a three-year, entry-level contract. The 18-year-old, who was taken with a 2nd-round draft pick in June, is expected to play in the Swedish Hockey League next season. Photos by the Buffalo Sabres
