Students and staff at Fredonia High School are in mourning over the death of a 2009 graduate who died while serving his country in Germany. Air Force Staff Sgt. Michael Klose died in a crash on May 24th about 40 kilometers from the air base where he was stationed. High School Principal Todd Crandall told WDOE News says he first heard the bad news on Thursday.

Crandall says he spoke about the 24-year-old airman's passing during an academic awards ceremony held today. Word of Staff Sgt. Klose's death also reached County Executive Vince Horrigan. Horrigan, who had a military career in the Air Force, is familiar with Spangdahlem Air Base where Michael was stationed.
