Preliminary Study Shows Lake Erie Walleye Travel Great Distances

The first phase of an innovative binational study on the movements of a fish prized by Lake Erie anglers is coming to a close and it is already verifying what fishermen have long known -- that Lake Erie walleye travel long distances. Don Einhouse, Lake Erie Fisheries Research Unit Leader, says the DEC is using over 100 acoustic receivers across the lake and they surgically implanted acoustic tags in 70 adult walleye during the spring spawning period. He says they are asking anglers to return the units if they happen to catch a transmittered fish...
